About Us

In 1983, Kim Fung Restaurant opened its doors for business. The restaurant was located in a 1,200 square-foot lot, neighboring the current location, seating about 60 people. The name, "Kim Fung", means golden phoenix, thus the original logo was the chinese characters "kim fung" between two giant phoenixes, like the one pictured at the top right.

Kim Fung grew steadily over the years, and soon, its owners wanted to expand. In December of 1995, the lot next door was purchased and Kim Fung moved into its present location. This new restaurant seats about 128 people and has its own parking lot.

The restaurant's success has been attributed to the traditional foods served (and at such low prices!). Besides having The Best Soup in Town, Kim Fung is famous for its fried rice-cakes, and, in fact, was the first in the United States to serve the delicious dish.

Conveniently located in downtown Monterey Park amidst the San Gabriel Valley, Kim Fung has grown to be a favorite spot for diners that come from near and far. Stop by if you're in the area and eat the best Teo-Chow food outside of Canton!
